GUST

GUST was made by Theodore Fivel with Freeka Tet for Day for Night 2017. A large form of sand, roughly twenty-five feet on each side, was built on the floor of the post-office building and used as a projection surface: imagery was cast down onto its ridges and slopes and four-channel sound surrounded it, so that the material surface and the projected one moved against each other. The work continued Fivel's practice of sand and colour at the scale of architecture.

It is documented here through NYLON's coverage of the edition and the surviving curatorial record; the archive holds no photograph of the installation. Freeka Tet's separate audiovisual performance at the festival is not described here for want of sufficient evidence.
