Day for Night 2015
Day for Night was conceived in 2014 by Omar Afra and Kiffer Keegan, childhood friends who began developing the idea while experimenting with the visual language of Free Press Summer Fest. Their premise was simple: build a music festival where ambitious visual art, light, architecture and emerging technology were as central to the experience as the performers themselves.
Afra and Keegan brought in Alex Czetwertynski to curate the festival’s art program, with large-scale installations spanning generative art, light, projection and new media. Marini Van Smirren served as general manager, while musical programming was curated by Omar Afra and Chris Wise. Mark Armes directed the festival’s video and visual documentation.
Held in Houston from 2015 to 2017, Day for Night became an early landmark in the convergence of contemporary art, experimental technology and major music-festival culture. In 2017, Consequence of Sound named Day for Night its Festival of the Year, cementing its reputation as one of the defining American festivals of its era.
