Silver Street Studios
The Washington Avenue Arts District complex where Day for Night held its first edition, December 19—20, 2015.
Silver Street Studios is an arts complex at 2000 Edwards Street in Houston's Washington Avenue Arts District, part of the group of former industrial properties now operated together as Sawyer Yards. In December 2015 it was the site of the first Day for Night, the music and new-media art festival presented by Free Press Houston with Work-Order.
Contemporary coverage placed the first edition in and around the complex. The Houston Chronicle listed the venue as Silver Street Studios, 2000 Edwards, Houston, and described the event as held in the Washington Avenue Arts District adjacent to Silver Street Studios; the Houston Press described a festival footprint of roughly six blocks surrounding the studio building.

The site and the festival
The Washington Avenue corridor west of downtown Houston is a band of former industrial and warehouse properties, a number of them converted to studio, gallery and event use. Silver Street Studios is one of these conversions and sits within the cluster now operated as Sawyer Yards.
Day for Night debuted here on December 19—20, 2015, presented by Free Press Houston and Work-Order. Advance coverage announced New Order and Janelle Monáe closing the main stage on Saturday and Kendrick Lamar and Flying Lotus on Sunday.
After the first edition the festival moved to the former Barbara Jordan Post Office at 401 Franklin Street downtown for its 2016 and 2017 editions. That site has its own place record in this archive.
