Kyle McDonald + Jonas Jongejan
Light Leaks, by Kyle McDonald and Jonas Jongejan, was presented at Day for Night 2017 as a site-specific installation. A field of mirror balls is lit by projectors whose output is computed pixel by pixel, so that the light thrown off the thousands of small facets, ordinarily a random spray, is resolved by software into controlled patterns that sweep the surrounding walls, floor and ceiling in sequence. The room is filled with points of light that move as one drawn figure.
The work depends on calibration: the projectors are mapped to each facet in advance, and the code then treats the whole room as a display surface addressed through reflection. It is documented here through NYLON's coverage of the edition and the surviving curatorial record; the archive holds no photograph of the Houston installation.
