Threshold

Threshold was the interactive video installation the Houston artist and Rice University lecturer Lina Dib debuted at Day for Night 2017. Rice's account describes footage shot on the beach at Surfside, Texas, projected about forty feet wide in the post-office building; as a visitor approached, the projection responded to their proximity, changing the speed of the waves, the audio and the colour of the image, and at close range liquefying the picture altogether. The programming was by Taylor Knapps, per the Rice report. The surviving curatorial record describes the same reactive beach, its speed and fluidity changing with the audience's distance.

The work was later shown at the Galveston Arts Center. It is documented here through the Rice University report and that later exhibition record; the archive holds no photograph of the Houston installation.
