School for Poetic Computation
Re-Coded was the School for Poetic Computation's contribution to the first Day for Night, shown in Houston in December 2015 in the east room of the Silver Street gallery. The New York school's own record describes the premise: a set of homages to, and reinterpretations of, pioneering computational artists, each artwork displayed beside the code driving it, so that a visitor could read the programme and watch its output at once. The surviving placement record describes the room as an environment of LED screens, software and publications intended to introduce a festival audience to code, light and sound practice.
The school, founded in 2013 by Zach Lieberman, Taeyoon Choi, Amit Pitaru and Jen Lowe, treats code as a medium to be taught in public, and Re-Coded carried that pedagogy into the festival. It is documented here through SFPC's own project and event records; the archive holds no photograph of the installation.
