Photoperiod

Photoperiod was the curator's own installation in the first Day for Night, set in the hallway of the Silver Street gallery. The Houston Press, previewing the festival, described fake plants, a light bulb and projections imagining what plants do when they are asleep and dreaming; the surviving placement record describes the plants painted white so that projected light and colour could play across them, with sound in the corridor. Fubiz covered the finished piece the following February as a simulated jungle installation.

The title is the botanical term for the length of daylight a plant is exposed to, the signal by which it keeps time. The work is documented here through the Houston Press preview, the Fubiz feature and the placement record; the archive holds no photograph of the installation.
