The Wheel Workers is a Texas independent rock collective led by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Steven Higginbotham. Originating in Austin around 2000–2001 and reconvening in Houston in 2009, the group developed a sound that combines melodic guitar rock, synthesizers, and psychedelic textures with lyrics addressing social and political life. Releases including Citizens and Harbor document its evolving arrangements and membership, with musicians such as Erin Rodgers, Craig Wilkins, Zeek Garcia, and Kevin Radomski contributing to later lineups. The Wheel Workers connects long-term collaborative songwriting with Houston’s tradition of politically engaged independent music.
