History
What the sources establish
The building dates to 1918 and was opened as Fitzgerald's by Sara Fitzgerald in 1977. It ran as a two-floor music venue for four decades.
The archive's deepest holding for the venue is the Pegstar and Free Press Houston period: a typed registry of the shows booked there between September 2010 and the end of that arrangement in 2015. The registry lives in the collection, not on this record.
The end of the club and the loss of the building were separate events. Fitzgerald’s closed after New Year’s Eve 2018; contemporary reports and photographs document demolition beginning in May 2019. The former building is not a present-day visitor destination.
The paper’s 2015 retrospective supplies a contemporary account of the operating period represented in the show registry. Read that account alongside the dated bills rather than treating a calendar entry as proof of attendance, a particular room, or the completion of every advertised performance.
