Second Lovers is a Houston folk and Americana band associated with songwriter Nic Morales and guitarist Thom Truver. Its debut album, Wishers, Dreamers & Liars, and the song “New Mexico” introduced a melodic roots sound that later incorporated stronger rock elements and the vocal partnership of Morales and Chelsea Renee. A “New Mexico” video filmed at Saint Arnold Brewing Company linked the group with Houston’s craft-brewing community, while performances at local breweries and clubs widened that relationship. Second Lovers’ history reflects the shared neighborhood networks that supported independent music and small cultural businesses in the 2010s.
