Outlines, by the St Petersburg collective TUNDRA, filled a darkened room of the post-office building with a lattice of red laser lines, so that a geometric boundary usually drawn on a screen was made physical at the scale of a room. Visitors entered the grid; haze made each beam a solid edge, and a low, dark audiovisual score moved with the lines as they shifted. Houstonia's photographers called it a laser prison and placed it at the unsettling end of the year's programme, opposite Damien Echols's neon glyphs.

The work is documented here through contemporary press and the festival's own making-of film for the year. The archive holds no photograph of Outlines and displays none.
