Golan Levin
Ghost Pole Propagator II is Golan Levin's interactive projection, reimagined at a larger scale for Day for Night 2016. The artist's own project record and Carnegie Mellon's account of the commission describe the system: a camera watches the people in front of the work, software reduces each body to a stick figure, and the figures are drawn in laser light and propagated across the wall, so that a visitor's gestures leave a trail of skeletal copies that walk on after the person has moved away. The first Ghost Pole Propagator dates from 2007; the Houston version was rebuilt for the scale of the post-office building.
Chad Wadsworth's photograph of the installation, published by Janky Smooth and displayed from the publisher's host, shows the figures on the wall. CultureMap's preview counted Levin among the pioneers of digital and computational art on the 2016 roster.
