Stream

Stream was Ezra Miller's work for Day for Night 2016, a site-specific projection on the wall directly across from the Red Stage in the post-office building. In the artist's own account of the piece, published on the Derivative community site after the festival, a live camera feed of the performer and the stage was passed through a real-time generative shader network that transformed it using motion, optical flow and the textures of the image itself, so that the wall carried a continuously changing abstraction of what was happening on stage. Because the stage lighting was synchronised to the music, the transformation became pseudo-audio-reactive: the projection moved with the light, and the light moved with the sound.

The work was announced before the festival as Warp Transmission, the title CultureMap and the Houston Chronicle carried in their previews; the artist's post-event documentation and his portfolio listing give the final title as Stream, and VICE's report from the weekend uses the same. The archive treats Stream as canonical and keeps Warp Transmission as the announced title. No photograph of the installation is held.
