Reflector Suits

Children of the Light (Christopher Gabriel and Arnout Hulskamp)

  • immersive light
  • audiovisual performance
  • installation

Reflector Suits was the contribution of Children of the Light, the Dutch duo Christopher Gabriel and Arnout Hulskamp, to Day for Night 2016. Hyperallergic's report on the festival's immersive installations describes it: performers dressed in illuminated, reflective attire moved through the festival spaces in improvised performances, so that the work had no fixed site and appeared as living sculpture wherever the wearers went, catching and returning the light of the other installations and the stages. The Houston Chronicle's preview of the edition independently confirms the title and the form.

Katrina Barber's photograph, published by Janky Smooth and displayed here from the publisher's own host, shows one of the suits in the crowd. The work is otherwise documented through Hyperallergic, the Chronicle and Houstonia's captions from the weekend.
