Venomous Maximus formed in Houston around 2010 with vocalist and guitarist Gregg Higgins, guitarist Christian Larson, bassist Trevi Biles, and drummer Bongo. Its music combined the weight of classic heavy rock with occult imagery and expansive, riff-centered arrangements, frequently drawing comparisons with doom metal. Beg Upon the Light (2012) established a substantial recorded statement, followed by Firewalker (2015) and No Warning (2017). Performances at Fitzgerald’s anchored the group locally, while its recordings connected Houston’s heavy music community with a wider audience for traditional metal, dark psychedelia, and seventies-inspired rock.
