Los Skarnales formed in Houston in 1993 when Felipe Galván and José Rodríguez moved beyond their earlier punk group, Desorden. Drawing from ska, punk, cumbia, reggae, mambo, and rockabilly, the band developed an exuberant performance style associated with pachuco dress and Mexican American cultural identity. Its roots in Spring Branch and appearances at venues such as Fitzgerald’s anchor that history in Houston, while tours through the United States, Mexico, and Europe extended its reach. Los Skarnales represents an enduring connection between the city’s punk underground, Latin dance traditions, and cross-border musical exchange.
