Free Radicals is a Houston ensemble founded by drummer Nick Cooper in 1996 to explore collective improvisation. Its music joins jazz and funk with ska, reggae, Latin rhythms, and other international traditions, using an evolving live lineup and a wider circle of recording collaborators. Albums including The Rising Tide Sinks All (1998), Our Lady of Eternal Sunny Delights (2000), and Freedom Fence (2012) connect musical experimentation with social criticism. Performances at benefits, demonstrations, and venues such as AvantGarden document the group’s sustained relationship with Houston’s independent music and grassroots organizing communities.

“Chambers, usually backed by the Houston All-Stars, dropped an insanely strong album this year with her, “Making My Mark.” There will also be a special performance from Houston’s Free Radicals featuring Harry Shephard.”
