Rusted Shut is a Houston noise-rock band associated with guitarist and vocalist Don Walsh. Its music places abrasive amplification, repetition, and confrontational performance at the center of the rock format, drawing attention to texture and physical impact as much as conventional song structure. The album Dead (2009) forms part of a recorded history that accompanied decades of underground activity. Accounts of the group’s performances document an uncompromising approach shared across Houston’s experimental and punk communities, where Rusted Shut developed a reputation for pushing familiar instruments toward unstable, heavily distorted extremes.
