Riff Tiffs emerged from Houston’s Bellaire High School community, with brothers Chris and Curran Rehm on guitars, Althea Topek on bass, and Sean Hart on drums. Their early music combined melodic songwriting with experimental guitar arrangements, bringing young musicians into the city’s independent club circuit. A battle-of-the-bands recording prize led to sessions at SugarHill with engineer John Griffin, while plans for the 2007 Afflictinnitus release show at Bohemeo’s and a supporting slot at Walter’s on Washington documented their growing local presence. Riff Tiffs preserves a chapter in Houston’s tradition of school-age bands developing through neighborhood stages and professional recording rooms.
