BOAN is the electronic duo of José Cota and Houston native Mariana Saldaña, whose earlier work together included the group Medio Mutante. Combining hardware synthesizers, sequenced rhythms, and predominantly Spanish-language vocals, BOAN developed a minimal synth and cold-wave sound shaped by Texas’s interconnected electronic scenes. Its debut album Mentiras appeared on Holodeck in 2015, with engineering and production by Michael Stein of S U R V I V E. Songs including Babylon, Secretos, and the extended BOAN Acid pair Cota’s rhythmic arrangements with Saldaña’s vocal presence, connecting intimate pop structures to club music.
