The Vanity was an Austin-based alternative rock band with a Houston connection through vocalist Alex Dugan. Formed in 2014, its early lineup included guitarists Mic Vredenburgh and Matt Sledge, bassist Augie Gmitter, and drummer David Grayson. The Strangers EP appeared in March 2015, followed by Are You Going Alone?, recorded at Austin’s Orb Studios with producer Kevin Killen. Guitar-driven melodies and large vocal choruses shaped the group’s sound, while touring with Cold War Kids and performances at Houston’s 2015 Free Press Summer Fest connected it with a wider regional audience.
