Jana Hunter emerged from Houston’s independent music community through Matty & Mossy before establishing a solo recording career. Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom (2005) became the first release on Gnomonsong, the label founded by Devendra Banhart and Andy Cabic, followed by There’s No Home and Carrion in 2007. Hunter also helped establish Houston’s Feow Records with Matthew Brownlie and Arthur Bates. Later work leading the Baltimore band Lower Dens extended an approach grounded in distinctive vocals, intimate songwriting, and textural experimentation, connecting Houston’s early-2000s underground with a broader history of American independent music.

One appearance documented on a Free Press Houston bill. Records are kept to the lineup sources the archive holds; nothing beyond them is stated.
