From Beyond is a Houston heavy music project centered on guitarist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Robert McCarthy. Its early recordings, including the One Year EP (2012), combine doom metal with psychedelic repetition and the atmosphere of horror soundtracks. McCarthy cited Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka as an important influence and recorded much of the instrumental material himself, with drums supplied separately. Work at Digital Warehaus and performances at Fitzgerald’s placed From Beyond within Houston’s independent metal community, where its dense amplification and cinematic approach linked classic heavy rock to electronic-era horror imagery.
