Roky Moon and Bolt brought glam rock, theatrical vocals, and punk energy to Houston during its original 2009–2012 run. Led by Mike Hardin under the name Roky Moon, the group included pianist Cassie Hargrove, guitarist Aaron Echegaray, and drummer Jeoaf Johnson. Its album American Honey (2011) was recorded at SugarHill as part of ZenHill’s One Day Record project, with producers Dan Workman and Chris Longwood. Performances at The Mink and Fitzgerald’s established a local setting for the band’s flamboyant approach, connecting Houston independent rock with traditions of musical theater and seventies glam.
