Damon Allen is a longstanding presence in Houston’s underground DJ community, with a focus on dance music from the 1980s and 1990s. Recognized within that community for his archival knowledge, Allen approaches selection as a way of keeping earlier dance-floor traditions in circulation. His documented local work includes a 2013 Mixed Media event at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and involvement with the Bewitched collective. Together, these activities place his musical practice within the city’s overlapping histories of independent nightlife, record culture, and public arts programming.
