Omar Afra founded Free Press Houston in 2003 and published, edited and wrote for it until the paper ceased publishing in 2018. This page is the archive's finding aid to the records it holds for those years: the recovered bylines, the transcribed staff boxes, and the issues those records evidence him in. The paper's own run begins. The archive's earliest recovered Free Press Houston editions for the year are catalogued by issue, with covers where a scan or supplied photograph survives.
Free Press Houston starts the Westheimer Block Party at Westheimer and Taft, a free street festival built around Numbers, AvantGarden, Mango's and La Strada. It is where the paper learns festival production.
The spring program was scheduled for April 29, rained out, and given an announced May 27 rain date whose completion is not conclusively documented in the held run. A second edition took place November 4.
The inaugural two-day Free Press Summer Fest is held August 8—9 at Eleanor Tinsley Park, a collaboration between Free Press Houston and Pegstar.
The first Day for Night is held in December in downtown Houston. Earlier the same autumn Free Press Houston co-produces the HOU Decide mayoral debates with KHOU 11 and Houston Public Media.
The third and final edition draws national coverage, and Consequence of Sound names Day for Night its festival of the year.
