Papermoons is the Texas duo of Matt Clark and Daniel Hawkins, whose recordings connect Houston’s independent music scene with a spare, intimate form of guitar pop. Clark’s guitar, vocals, and pedal bass work with Hawkins’s drums and harmonies to create arrangements larger than their two-person instrumentation suggests. New Tales was recorded in Houston in 2008, while No Love followed in 2013 through a network of releases involving Deep Elm, Storm Chasers, and Japan’s Stiff Slack. The duo’s work balances acoustic detail, rhythmic restraint, and melancholy melody within the broader Texas indie-rock tradition.
