Tron: Legacy

Tron: Legacy picks up the pieces from the 1982 Disney film Tron. Jeff Bridges who was the star of the original reprises his role and actually plays two parts: Kevin Flynn and Clu. Bruce Boxlietner, a television star known for the 80s series Scarecrow and Mrs. King, also reprises his role. Bridges has been digitally altered for the Clu character to look 30-years younger. This results in a few shots where he looks like a guy wearing a rubber Jeff Bridges mask.

There is a crunk soundtrack throughout by Daft Punk, but you know what? I liked the soundtrack better when it was called the soundtrack to Inception.

There’s a crazy set design around the half-way point where the hero goes to this place ruled by a whacked-out dude named Zuse/Castor (Michael Sheen channeling Aladdin Sane era David Bowie) that sports white neon floors and ceilings. But you know what? I liked that set better when it was in 2026: A Space Odyssey.

Then we meet this totally cool chick named Quorra (Olivia Wilde) who rules while merely reclining on a couch in a full-on leather body suit. But you know what? I dug that look when it was Polly Walker in Enchanted April and every other movie in which she’s appeared.

Tron: Legacy is like a two-hour commercial for a video game and it’s well on its way to some kind of cult status.
