Project Row Houses Summer Studios 2012 Opening

Houston’s Third Ward, one of our city’s oldest African American communities, is home to a neighborhood based nonprofit, Project Row Houses (PRH). This nonprofit is an art and cultural organization that began in 1993 with a dream to create an encouraging and creative presence in the Third Ward Community for African-American artists and to revitalize inner-city neighborhoods. This project officially began when artist and community activist Rick Lowe discovered 1½ blocks of abandoned shotgun-style houses that provided a need for community involvement, and an ideal inspiration for the opportunity to create new art. Quickly growing from 22 houses to 40, the new PRH campus includes 12 artist exhibitions and artist residency spaces.

Project Row Houses hosts a Summer Studio Program that was designed to provide an opportunity for talented emerging artists to create and display their work that is pertinent to the community, and is open to local college students with a visual arts major or minor.

The Project Row Houses Summer Studios 2026 Opening is free and open for art lovers of all ages. It will feature art by seven local artists attending different Texas colleges and universities. These artists were nominated by their professors and then selected by a panel of professional artists. Their original works range in materials and subject matter, and will be on display at 2505-2517 Holman from August 18 to September 16.
